Description: This all-day family event on the first or second Saturday in March has a silent auction and over 40 game and food booths. Throw shaving-cream pies and walk through a maze of bright-colored calico walls. You might win a T-shirt by launching a stuffed toy lamb into a little pen. Admission is free. Concession booth proceeds support a variety of 4-H activities.


2. Strawberry Festival Antiques Show

Description: This is one of three annual antiques shows hosted by the St. Vrain Historical Society and held in the exhibit hall at the fairgrounds. (The others are the Heritage Festival in July and Pumpkin Pie Days in October.) Antiques and collectibles are available, but those who aren’t buying are usually taste-testing the strawberry shortcake sold in the cafeteria. Admission at all three events is $3.

Description: The whole family will love the goats and rabbits at this down-home country fair, which draws more than 100,000 spectators. Sheep yell “Ma-a!” as 4-H parents do the final, pre-show shearing. The harness horses prance, their braided manes decorated with flowers. At the old-timers’ rodeo on the last Friday, see bucking broncos and fancy riding. Admission to the fairgrounds is free, but call ahead to check fees for such events as the rodeo. The fair runs from the first through the second weekend in August.
