My wife and I recently bought a vacation home in Sylva and shorty after we set up a trail camera to see what goes on when we're not there. So far we've seen one bobcat. We also unexpectedly saw some people who were working on our house go into the storage room which was locked. Luckily we checked with the contractor and they were simply getting in to turn the water on which they needed. Nothing was missing and they haven't been back in there. It's really kind of fun to look at the pics/videos to see whenever someone comes there that you're not expecting. Our home is up a hill on a dead end driveway so no one should be going there. But we've seen a few vehicles that thankfully just turned around and left.
When I was a kid, we were traveling by bus from Robbinsville to Stecoah for a basketball game. As the bus was climbing the mountain on 143 a mountain lion crossed the road, put its front paws on the guard rail, looked in our direction and then went over it. All of us on the bus saw it plus parents in the cars following us.
