Lots of folks may diss it but California is a very nice place.
It’s so huge that there is literally something for everyone.

Selling your nice house there is more or less a one way ticket out of town.

I can see us returning if we have to deal with serious medical issues because medical is lacking where we’re at and I just don’t see us living in Seattle.
I’m a West Coast kinda guy so all those other places just won’t cut it.

I have to wonder how many people that leave to California are from Seattle or other high taxed areas?
It would be interesting to see those numbers broken down.

Anyone surprised by the moves, all of them more southern except ID? There are also some northern states, but they are lower on the list.

The #1 State That Residents of Washington State Are Leaving For

#7. Florida

#6. Colorado

#5. Idaho

#4. Texas

#3. Arizona

#2. Oregon

#1. California

I'm surprised to see California is ranked as the #1 state as where so many Washingtonians are moving to, I moved to Texas from Washington State in early 2021 and see a lot of West Coast plates when I go around, I'm surprised to see the Carolina's aren't on the list.

^^I agree. Most of my long time friends who have moved away from WA went to the Carolina's or Oregon.

"Data released last week by the U.S. Census Bureau shows Washington now has more people leaving than moving here. From July 1, 2021 to July 1, 2022, Washington had a net loss of about 3,600 people to other states."

What do you mean by medical lacking? Is that common all over WA State outside metro areas around Puget Sound?

PNW climate is actually moderate compared to most of the country. Are the natives leaving due to gray and overcast that typically causes S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder)?

I don’t think you will have any medical provider problems in the larger metro areas.
We live on the upper Olympic Peninsula and also in an unincorporated area near San Francisco.
Unless you are a heroin addict the healthcare here is subpar.
When we tried to get a dental appointment it took 8 months for a simple check up appointment and 18 months for a teeth cleaning appointment.
We fly down to Cali for our teeth cleaning (and other obligations).
This is what we found in Sequim.
It would have been quicker in Port Angeles but we want a dentist that is closer.
From what I’m seeing with medical care here for us it mainly urgent care clinics and long drives for specialists.

We keep our medical appointments in California and supplement that with the 2 local life flight companies for our possible trauma needs.

Most if not all native Washington people I know that have left or are leaving are leaving for financial, political or family reasons.
Haven’t met one that was worried about the weather but who knows?
Short timers probably more so.

We like the weather more so than not and are very active outside even when it’s winter.
For us keeping active in the cold season and doing warm vacations during the winter peak works.

As I said before, WA has sank from 4th(not that long ago) to 44th-46th of 50 states for healthcare quality and availability.
I am stuck right in the middle of it all with a vaccine injury, subsequent lung/heart damage, and a blood coagulation disorder. It's MONTHS to get into pulmonology, neurology, hematology, or cardiology even with a critical referral.

Interestingly, medical professionals choose not to stay in WA when they are required to treat homeless junkies that do not pay, yell and attack them, and work in a state that mandates vaccines that could kill them.

Yep. I have almost 70 friends(from both sides of the political fence) that were once locals, still friends on facebook.
TWO of them are all that are still here. Both of those do not plan on staying.
Why stay? If we're going to have all of California's problems we can at least have a California income.

That's the crazy part when you look at places like Bend and Bham with low wages and very high prices. Those two things just don't go well together. Yet these areas continue to grow like gangbusters. It reminds me of the boutique mountain towns of Colorado like Aspen, Vale, Telluride, etc... While living in Colorado Springs, I always wondered how the locals in these boutique ski towns afford to live there.

I agree if you are paying CA prices, you may as well have the higher paying salaries as well. While there are some who don't need local jobs due to retirement, WFH or simply wealthy, what about the rest?

As long as too many people, and the wrong people, remain obsessed with money, it's never going matter.

I call it white rock syndrome, most won't get it. White Rock, BC is very very expensive. $1.5M+ if you want to just stick a toe into the RE market. And its almost completely void of restaurants and services, more-or-less a bedroom community for the wealthy. It's really simple...no affordable housing for the working class=no workers to serve you(or you're gonna pay big, experience poor service, and/or wait a long time for who's left).
