I agree with you here. The problem is that the migration trends in this country right now are the same as my ideas. Liberal states are losing people like crazy (or at best, like Washington, flat), and the red states are growing like crazy.

Those places like Idaho have their problems trying to keep up with that growth, between infrastructure, real estates values, etc.

But I will risk it to get out of Washington.

I think you underestimate the difficulty of navigating our health care system in this day and age, especially for a minor child. Every kind of discretionary care (and this is discretionary care) has big waiting lists and barriers even if you have insurance. We tried to get ordinary generic mental health counseling for our daughter last year and my wife is a physician within the same network as our insurance provider. And it was still a herculean task to even get a youth therapist who had openings when we had insurance cash in hand.

As I understand it there are big wait times for all of this. So a 16 year old is going to have difficulty navigating all of this with or without parental help and none of it will be fast or easy. The legislature passing laws doesn't make any of that easier. I have the occasional trans kid at school but mostly the seem not to be doing actual medical therapy but rather more just messing around with different gender identities, pronouns, dress, etc. And honestly I think some of it is even just to terrorize their parents just like previous generations did with rock and roll, miniskirts, long hair on boys, smoking weed, etc. Nothing terrorizes a conservative parent more than: "Mom, my new pronouns are they/them."

If you look at the actual numbers they are strikingly low These are NATIONAL numbers not Washington State: https://www.reuters.com/investigates...ansyouth-data/

And the fraction of these who are getting this care without parental consent is vanishingly small. Navigating our health care system as a minor is not easy. It isn't easy even if you are an adult professional and work in it.

To give some perspective, here is the number of kids who die of firearms and in car crashes every year in the US. About 65-times more kids die from firearms and car crashes in this country than are getting transgender surgeries in a given year.

And here are the national numbers on youth homelessness in the US: https://www.ncsl.org/human-services/...sness-overview

Quote:
Each year, an estimated 4.2 million youth and young adults experience homelessness in the United States, 700,000 of which are unaccompanied minors—meaning they are not part of a family or accompanied by a parent or guardian. These estimates indicate that approximately one in 10 adults ages 18 to 25, and one in 30 youth ages 13 to 17 will experience homelessness each year.
So there are about 175 unaccompanied minor homeless children in this country for every one minor child who is voluntarily taking hormone therapy, almost always with parental consent.

And if you want to look at child sexual abuse, the CDC estimates that About 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys in the United States experience child sexual abuse. And that someone known and trusted by the child or child’s family members, perpetrates 91% of child sexual abuse. https://www.cdc.gov/violencepreventi.../fastfact.html If you do the math, that means a child is about 6,238-times more likely to experience sexual abuse in the US than undergo voluntary transgender hormone therapy.

Yes, we do have a youth crisis in this country but it isn't the one you think and it isn't the one that seems to be causing mass hysteria in Republican circles.
