That wasn't the question you asked.

Lack of inventory for one, people moving here.

Imo, people need to buy to live in western WA.

That is a shame

Where in WA are you looking? If you look anywhere within commute distance of Seattle, rents will be high. There are plenty of low-rent areas, but most aren't near job centers.

I’m seeing cheap rents in Yakima. You can get an entire house for less than a price of a studio in Seattle.

Because everybody and their brother moved here from other states for jobs, our social safety net, and our high minimum wage, and new housing stock hasn't kept up.

Also not fair for people with low incomes to expect people they don't even know to pay most of their housing expenses for them. You seem to think a landlord should take income away from his own family and his own kids, so you can live for cheap?

Rent is going to reflect the cost of housing. It is going to be affected by how many tenants need a a place to live, and it is going to be affected by the expenses of maintaining that rental unit.

Nobody is going to pay half a million dollars for a house that has $4,500 a year property taxes and then turn around and rent it to you for $300 a month just because that is what is fair to lower income people.

If you can't afford rent, it is time to figure out how to increase your income. Or move to a cheaper area. Or get roommates.
