I know housing costs are a big deal when choosing a place to live, but I'm curious ... if you were independently wealthy, and you could pick anywhere in the state of Washington to live, where would you go and why? Which city/town/neighborhood is the most fun/safe/beautiful/peaceful etc?

ETA: Let's also pretend, since you're independently wealthy, that you don't have to consider getting a job or commuting to your current job.

I love Highway 12, particularly between Mossyrock and Packwood. Someplace up out of the flood plain, but with a view of it, and the mountains. Beautiful area, if you don't need to be close to civilization.

Me too! I would love to have a waterfront home on Lake Mayfield, near Mossyrock WA. There are some affordable lots with acreage, and I could probably afford to build a dream home now, if we sold ours, the problem is that at our age it's too far from services and medical. So, I have to go with Poulsbo, with views of Liberty Bay, and a couple of acres. We actually may end doing that in a year or two. The really expensive places like Seattle, Lake Washington waterfront, Mercer Island, Medina and Yarrow Bay don't interest me.

Yeah I agree! The populated places don't interest me. If I could go anywhere, it'd be further out.

20 min access to all services, but still live in the boonies.
(Including 20 min to an international airport which I will use 4x this week),

Internet would be nice to have, as would direct access to waterfront. (and <1hr to mtns)

No crowds (A county with NO STOP LIGHTS)

And more sunbreaks

There are quite a few potential good choices. (Not telling on a public forum!) but it's very easy to find them. With unlimited funds you will be able to employ a detective to find the right spots!

I have lived in Sequim for over 24 years, since retiring and leaving the Seattle area.

Sequim is my little piece of heaven and I wouldn't trade it for any other place in the US or the world. And I have been to over 80 countries and about 35+ states coast to coast.
At present housing cost are no concern to me but my first home ($200K in 1998) on the Peninsula (Discovery Bay) recently sold for $600K. My present home has doubled in price along with almost tripling of my property tax.

I hear you on that rantiquity.
I really like the area.
For me it has lots going on and yet it has less going on.

My kids are settling here as well.
One day I might even have grandkids just a short drive away.
Chicken dinner .

Sequim in Clallam County is my choice of if I was independently wealthy.

I would love to live in Spokane Valley since I love how it's a good sized town with a slight country feel, I always preferred Spokane Valley over the city of Spokane, I love how Spokane Valley is very close to Coeur D'Alene, I also love how green Spokane is considering it's located in Eastern Washington.
