We want to move BACK to WA State from Florida,
Due to housing and job situation down here we are not going to have as much money as we hoped so Seattle and area is out.
BUT I did find Long Beach and Area did not find much info about the place except the houses so competitively priced.WHY?
We love the weather up there Rain No Problem a little Snow No problem.
Can anyone please tell me about the area Long Beach and Ilwaco? houses, crime, medical stuff hospitals and like.
Astoria in Oregon looks like the biggest town close by.

Thank you and have a safe New Year
Me the wife and our 9 year old Lab who loves the water.

I enjoy fishing in Long Beach (surf perch/razor clamming) and crabbing out of Astoria. I have a coworker that lives in Chinook a tiny town near Long Beach and the economic driver for the is Salmon fishing. Long Beach seems like a nice tourist town, my observation is its busy in the summer months but seems quite deserted off season.

I too have looked a properties in the area (vacation only), quite a bit still available but have been reluctant due to the high maintenance cost of living on the coast.

Not sure if they have much industry outside of tourism and fishing, will you need to work?

My wife will, I'm a little bit disabled and my line of work means we are suppose to live near a major airport.
So I hope I can find something in a shop.

We are both 63 own our house if we sell here, pay off the mortgage we might be able to buy something less expensive and live on the money from the house sale, well that is the theory.

High Maintenance? I have searched the interweb for info about the area but cannot get a real answer, even from realtors.

And I cannot find any info about long term rentals just vacation rentals again no one wants to tell me anything.

I hope that when the Hols finish the property people up there are a bit more forth coming.

Thanks for the info.

Salt air is highly corrosive. I have friends who have beach front homes and I've learned from them just how much more maintenance living at the beach really is.

A quick google search I was able to find this for you.

This is a good low cost option on the water

Few jobs in LB, (fewer in Cathlamet) but more options within commute distance.

Also look at Woodland, Kalama, Kelso. (Longview is cheap, but crime ridden)

Another good option is Tenino, about 15 miles outside of Olympia:

I do know real estate in Astoria is quite expensive for what you get & it has no real economy.
