If you will be working daytime hours, live either in Marysville or somewhere south of Marysville (Everett). You don't want to be heading south in the morning or north in the afternoon.

Since you're renting, the simplest thing is to rent in Marysville, near work, and move later when you know the area better.

What area are you moving from? Rural/Subs/City is somewhat relative, or at least the feeling is. Providing the context for your idea of 'rural' will help get better answers.

If you want to be able to walk to most things then Everett will be a better fit. If you rather trade walkability for easy commute then you could live in Marysville. Marysville has all the things you need but much more spread out and with a focus more as a commuting 'family' community. We bought a house here a few years ago when we were 23. Its not really a place for 20-somethings that are single imho.

Affordable place in Everett and in walking distance to amenities:

OR

save a bunch of money while you figure out where you want to be:

OR

Nice building, a bit small, 99 over but- 6-month lease and in the heart of everything:

From Hewitt and Colby to 100th and state st in Marysville will take 15-20 depending on lights/traffic. So, depending on exactly where you chose to live and where work is, it would likely be under 25min. And you would be going against traffic, if working typical hours.

Hope this helps. Happy hunting!
