Openings ranged from 164" to 168", the 164' ones wouldn't even allow 9 inches between the cars, and either way the driver of the right side car couldn't open the door and get out.

Now we are noticing photos of new construction listings that appear to have that same smaller sized garage opening. Is this typical? Are builders cutting corners with these shrunken garages? Seems like false advertising?
I've noticed this in newer neighborhoods around the Denver area. My reaction is, that they're not really intended to be 2-car garages, but 1-car spaces, plus room for storage or a workshop area.

What I also noticed is, that some of these garages have a cement area on the other side; the back wall is actually a second big garage door, that allows the residents to drive a car through the garage and park one on the other side, out in the open. So the garages allow two cars to be parked, but only one inside the structure. The other one ends up to the side of the back yard on a cement patio, that's an extension of the garage floor.

Yes, definitely deceptive design.

Were in an escrow on a property in Felida a few weeks ago, and while doing the inspection I had this odd feeling about the garage. We tried to get two cars in and there was not room to get in or out of either car once inside, and the cars were just 8 inches apart. That was a no go for us and we cancelled the transaction.

I have to agree. It is also a marketing tactic kind of like the camping tents that shows 4-person tent.
Realistically, no way 4 adults would fit in it unless they were cadavers and piled as such or were using 4 oompa loompas for reference.
