I had been a little turned off by the main character's actions on Chicago Fire. I almost did not watch this. I am glad I did. Loooks like we have another winner here!!
I liked it, thought the acting was good and at least it's not a reality show.
Have never watched Chicago Fire but to get caught up, Amazon wants $39. for the season. Guess that leaves me out.
I was interested in watching Chicago PD, but just found out the main star of Chicago PD had guest starred on Chicago Fire.
Do I need to watch The Chicago Fire episodes he was in to understand Chicago PD?

I agree it is necessary to watch Chicago Fire before you start watching Chicago PD. You learn about all Voight and what he did to some other characters. If you start watching from PD you won't know what did Voight and how crooked he is.

Funny thing is that I think they are kind of retconning Voight and making him more of a straight cop who will break the rules to protect his people but wont necessarily break the rules like "Chicago Fire Voight" would have.
I also want to point out that I dont like the tie in for next week's episode that Severide's sister is missing because most likely come "Chicago Fire's" next episode there will be no mention of it. they are trying to tie the two together but still have them live in separate universes.

I will always see him as the "Chicago Fire Voight". It does seem like they're trying to tone him down and not be as crooked as he was before.
I like it. I like it taking place with an intelligence unit and not just "another cop show" about investigating murders and such.
I don't mind the tie in with Chicago Fire, but they should keep the 2 seperate. Really, whats the difference if there is an episode about Severides sister missing or some random character sister is missing?
Other than the backstory on Voight, there's not much you need to watch Chicago Fire for. They explain the story on Voight in the first 10 minutes of PD. Yeah, from watching Chicago fire you get more of the emotion behind it, but you won't be lost if you've never seen Chicago Fire.
I like what they are doing to Voight. A guy that will break the rules to protect those working under him. A man that is not consumed by the system. A guy willing to get his hands dirty to put down the bad guy.
Too much in TV and movies we see the good guy win just by doing the right and decent thing. This show will not be as black and white. I think we'll see where characters have to struggle with their morals in order to win.
"We have a case that we need a little bit of help with that began in New York City and that we're now finding the M.O. in Chicago, and SVU was investigating it when it was up there and now it's on our hands," Bush said.
Bush's scene will air on SVU on Wednesday, Feb. 26 and will be immediately followed by an episode of Chicago P.D. featuring SVU stars Ice-T and Kelli Giddish. "I'm the biggest SVU fan," Bush said. "So to have Ice and Kelli come down and work with us and now to be going to work with Mariska, I feel like it's my birthday."
