If you live in a place like VT, how people feel about politics definitely impacts life. Conservatives are looked at with disdain and the sharp left slant to state gov't politics will affect quality of life, especially affordability and what's happening in the schools. If you can completely ignore politics, local and state, you might be happy somewhere like here, or if you don't mind feeling and being isolated, then it won't matter to you, but it does matter to alot of people.

I don't completely ignore politics. I vote my choice in every election. But I don't let politics define who I am, where I live or how I live. If I allowed this my life would be miserable and I don't like being miserable. Life is short and I prefer to enjoy it.

That's an extremely privileged position. For some of us, we also don't want politics to define who we are, but the political system forces that definition upon us. I also do not like being miserable, and that's why I relocated away from what I consider to be the looney bin of American politics (the South).

Extremely privileged position? I don't even know what this means.

Not sure what you mean by "political system" either but how can this force something on you that you don't want or allow?

If you don't know what a privileged position is, or a political system, then I doubt we can have an intelligent conversation. Regardless, it sounds like you fit right in, so I am glad you found a community for you. My point is that you should allow others to do the same, without casting judgment as to their reasoning.

The term "privileged position" is liberal political jargon that I don't speak.

I do allow others to do as they wish, I believe in live and let live.

I also believe in practice what you preach.
