Looking at property in Van Buren county. Hearing rumblings of possible water contamination in county, with links of high prostate cancer and medical conditions as a result. That a class action lawsuit is in works. Anyone have any factual proof of this?

Municipal. Apparently, it’s been on going for several years. Class action lawsuit being prepared.

If a class action lawsuit or any lawsuit is in the works then its probably against the State of Tennessee since the state is responsible for testing and regulating the quality of drinking water in the state including the city of Spencer in Van Buren county.

Thank you Jumeby, we looked at 2 properties. One in Spencer and the other in Doyle. We live in Tennessee not this county. We spoke to few locals who brought the municipal water issue up. We would not have known otherwise.

I saw some older local news stories regarding potential water quality issues in Van Buren county. If I was looking at buying property in Van Buren county I would also be asking questions and doing some research. I have been filtering my drinking and cooking water for years just to be on the safe side and that's in a location that does not have reports of water quality issues.

Here is one of those local reports:

Default Water Van Buren

Thank you again, we also use Berkey water filtration in our home, we also don’t have a issue with water in our county. We like to Err on side of precaution.
We recently purchased land to come to find out 3 weeks later mennonites bought adjoining land and are putting a church - right at edge of property line . This is a reason we’ve reached out to locals in Spencer as we don’t need another “surprise”. However, it seems We will pass on the land/house in said county above. We watched some older news reports, curious why nothings being said about the “cancer “ and illnesses to have risen in the last few years publicly. The locals we spoke to at few places are very concerned .

If you're truly concerned about water quality, you should probably be living in a metropolitan area which has more checks and balances, or relocate outside the state of TN. Rural counties have vested interests (economic base) to look the other way as much as possible on issues that affect individual residents' health.

(See: Greene County and US Nitrogen, as well as Nuclear Fuel Services and the Nolichuckey River watershed...)

OR go fully rural and find some property where you can tap a well.

Thanks for input. We’re fine living in this great state of Tennessee! Only looking at it for resale purposes.
