Everyone knows what happened Feb of 2021, in Texas. Sadly, they didn't find out until afterwards, "Leftists from Other Places" were making decisions about their grid. I somewhat suspect that is happening other places in the country, so the whole U.S. grid will be less and less reliable in the future.

But here, I am only about 1/4 mile from water.

You don't have to be in the Sunbelt or Southern metro to experience that heat island effect. It happens in every city of any size.

Perhaps to some extent, but not that I've felt/been regularly conscious of, and I've been to over 90% of the U.S. cities with over 100K people and have lived in the SF Bay Area, coastal LA/OC, and the Houston metro (have lived in the latter since the late 2000s).

No matter where you go today, you will have to be on guard against the wokeness and the hateful bigotry of the Left that encroaches in every part of the country today.

The following post illustrates this encroachment:

First off, he has a gripe about homelessness. I suppose he didn't connect the dots that TN is called the bible belt for a reason and that a lot of people follow the teachings of a homeless preacher, including helping the needy.

Second gripe was that the library has a section of children's books against racism. I don't see where this is a problem and I can't imagine anyone forcing his kids to check out these books.

OP, if you are looking for a socially conservative town consider Cleveland TN. It is the HQ for the Church of God.
Wow. Hard to believe someone could get so many things wrong in just the first three paragraphs of a post.

Paragraph 1. It is not hateful to warn people of an encroaching danger. In fact, according to the Bible, that you say you follow:
Quote:
But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand. Ezekiel 33:6
Paragraph 2: Jesus did not advocate enabling the homeless to remain in their filth. Most of the homeless are that way because of drug addiction (something the Bible warns against) and mental illness.

Paragraph 3: the books he had a gripe with were not against racism, in fact they teach racism. AntiRacist is just racism in disguise. If you cannot see where it is a problem to teach children to be racist, then you become part of the problem. As for forcing kids to check out books, that isn't the issue. If the library had pornographic books(something that is on the way, if we don't stand against it), but didn't force people to check them out, they would still be a problem.

Just out of curiosity, do you actually live in Tennessee? Or is this thread just a convenient place to stop by to express your political views?

You just try to not be as active outside from like noon-4. It's doable but I would be a dripping puddle of sweat. But that's just me. I'm totally looking forward to shorts and flip flops for 6 months out of the year so I'm willing to take the occasional really oppressively hot day. There are plenty of hotter and more uncomfortable places than Putnam county is. It's going to have 4 real seasons with a tilt towards the hotter weather where for you and I our 4 seasons at home are much more towards the colder weather. IMO the mid south is Totally enjoyable and livable climate (I'm very much liking the Carolinas to TN and KY) It might be one of the best overall climate in the country. The deep south and gulf coast is just too much for me to live there.
Just curious, where in WNY? I was raised around Lockport.

Concerning TN weather, yes, it's humid. Coming from Idaho, where we saw hotter temps (100+ for some time most summers) but very low humidity (teens), it's really noticeable and oppressive. But frankly, I'd say less so than WNY-summers there weren't significantly different in term of humidity, temperatures hit mid 90s (though not for nearly as long) and it didn't cool off much at night so on a hot day, it was miserable all the time. Here in E. TN, I'm among the mountains-even on a hot, miserable day, mornings and late evenings are pleasant. And the bug situation is minimal compared to WNY-there mosquitoes were absolutely horrible, it was about impossible to go outside in the evening, near any kind of tall grass. Here, I don't think I've seen one. There are tiny, little flying bugs (we called them buffalo gnats in Idaho) that are annoying in the evenings. And of course winters are WONDERFUL!

I live in a town directly on lake Erie. Summers here are much more humid and stickier than people realize and yes mosquitoes are real as well. They feast on me anytime I'm out in the evening.

So I know I could handle TN summers. I've been down south in the summer already and our summers at home have been very warm and muggy lately. And besides we don't really have as widespread of a culture of air conditioning here as there is down south. So that makes the extra heat more bearable.

This is so funny. This guy doesn't even know me. But I know me and on a scale of 1 to 10 I am probably about 6.5. So If I frighten him he would be really scared of some of the liberals around here that might rank 8-9. I get along with locals of all political persuasions and happy to fulfill a role in keeping extremists away.

I don't call myself woke but I have had The Talk with mixed race grandson that he really shouldn't run red lights when he grows up and drives because there are too many instances of Black guys being killed. So if acknowledging that racist cops exist makes me woke then I'll own it.

Default Is TN right for me?

Well, I'm making the move to the Cookeville area. Technically, I'll be in White county between Cookeville & Sparta. I'm originally from northern MI but have been in California for 6 years now. California politics completely disgust me so am NOT bringing any of that with me. I've been lucky enough to be allowed to work remotely from anywhere so ended up choosing TN. One of the first things I'll be doing is replacing those California plates with TN. I'd rather explain that I'm from MI than CA.

I can't say that I'm looking forward to the hot humid weather there that I experienced earlier this week but figure that's the price for a more mild winter without living in the desert southwest. I kind of liked my time in NM and it's climate but if I want no state income tax then I'd have to move to NV and it's becoming more and more like CA. I figure there's not a lot of difference in 90+ with humidity and 105+ without since I wouldn't want to be outside in either case.

In any case, I'm looking forward to making the move and can't wait until it's all complete. Fall should be beautiful if all of those leaves change color and the temp cools down a bit.
