That's good to hear. Some of the home on the attached links above are really nice. Is there a mall or shopping centers in town? Couldn't find much on the internet on that.

Another question: What about fences? I see a lot of homes with big back yards or lots of property, but most do not have any fencing? Some have little 3 or 4 foot fences. We have dogs that are nice and friendly, but they would take off if we didn't have a fence. And they could easily jump any fence under 6 feet. What is the general rule on fences in Tennessee?

They're fairly common in my neck of the woods, especially with older homes. Keep in mind that lots, at least in northeast TN, may be larger than is common in California, and more expensive to fence in.

Yes, lots of shopping and even more on the way. Sam's Club, 2 Wal-Marts, JCPenney, Kohl's, Belk, TJMaxx, Ross, Publix, Kroger, Aldi, Staples, PetSmart, Petco, Office Max, and other big box stores and a wonderful downtown filled with locally owned shops. There are around 200 restaurants in Cookeville, too.

Thanks again for the info. I was looking at the reviews for the 'Cookeville Regional Medical Center' and they weren't that good. Have you had to go there recently, and if so: how was the care? Are there other hospitals nearby?

I'm at the hospital right now recovering from surgery I had yesterday. Excellent care. Absolutely zero complaints other than the lack of a parking garage.

Great thread guys. I'm looking to flee NY and their insane policies (I promise I won't bring them with me, hopefully I'm a likable Yankee not a damn yankee) I live in the far western end of NY state around 7hours from NYC for reference so it's nothing like that.

I'm looking to relocate my family to free America and TN is high on our list. I'm really enjoying this thread trying to learn more. I'm interested in anything from middle TN, to Knoxville and Chattanooga areas preferably in the suburbs or nearby country.

Thanks guys

You might want to ask about traffic. Shoot me now if I had to deal with the kind of traffic near Nashville every day. It was so bad when I was there at the end of October in 2018 that the "GPS lady" thought it was better to route me through downtown Nashville than to stay on I-24.

I moved from Sacramento to a development near Monterey, TN in August 2017. Monterey is between Cookeville and Crossville off Interstate 40. My wife and I are both retired, so jobs are not a necessity for us. As you probably already, the state of Tennessee is very attractive to retirees due to tax advantages for retirees. The cost of living here is much lower than in California. I agree with JMT that Cookeville is a place you should consider. We do much of our shopping in Cookeville. Our new primary care physician and our new dentist are both in Cookeville. You can find all of the goods and services you will ever need in Cookeville.
