Teacher pay has nothing to do with content area. It's education level and years of experience.
With one exception. In many districts when an experienced teacher transfers in from another district, they will usually be given something like a max of 5 years on the salary scale. However, some districts make exceptions to attract teachers in certain content areas.
Our special education teachers are on an “extended day” pay scale which has higher salaries than other teaching staff. The district started paying them on that scale a couple of years ago.
The district used to have a maximum entry step like phetaroi mentioned, but they did away with that last year for all hires.
It is generally the case in most districts that teacher salaries are uniform across subject areas. In fact, teaching salaries are public information and you can download them from most district web sties.
That said, school districts do sometimes offer stipends for hard to fill positions and that can include Special Education, Math, Science, and sometimes things like bilingual education. There are also sometimes extra paid duty assignments that can go along with Special Education such as before and after school and lunch duty.
LOL! I was about to post a similar comment, but you win.
"Those who can't do, teach"...or something like that.
