If the Syracuse area leadership is looking for other tourist attraction ideas they should go on a trip to Dubai.
Why, when you literally have multiple newer hotels right in the Inner Harbor/Franklin Square area and that would just be excessive?

The Syracuse area should create more of an image and tourist attractions based around the fact that the author of the Wizard of Oz was born in Chittenango and lived in Mattydale.

For example a Wizard of Oz museum.

Or have a city landmark built in the architecture of the emerald Tower like maybe the new aquarium having a green glass facade.

I’ve mentioned this, but why not just use the empty lot in Mattydale where the former Skating Rink was located, as I believe the estate he lived in was located there? It would make more sense given the history at that location and it is in an area that needs infill anyway. Plus, it is close to highway access via I-81 and even the Thruway. https://freethought-trail.org/trail-...hildhood-home/

As for tourism, creating an Underground Railroad tour throughout the city would be nice to have during the warmer months. This could be used as a guide: https://pacny.net/freedom_trail/

You mean for a Wizard of Oz museum?

I agree that would be the best location for it.

Another city in the Midwest has a Wizard of Oz museum but the Syracuse area has a stronger connection to the author than anywhere else so I think having another one in the US would still attract tourists.

I believe that Chittenango has an Oz Museum of some sort due to Baum’s connection to that community: https://www.allthingsoz.org/

I’m thinking more in terms of a historical marker, along with a replica property/museum on the site or even development with an Oz/Baum theme.

The Town of Henrietta in suburban Rochester is good example of town leadership that are progressive and pro growth which led to some of the lowest property taxes and fastest growing township in the region.

Onondaga township leadership take note. Notice how the leadership is excited about the new proposed development and wish that it looks as beautiful as possible.

Is that even true? I ask because Victor and Ontario County has been one of the fastest growing towns and counties in Upstate NY. Adjacent Farmington grew by a little over 20% between 2010-2020.

Also, Saratoga County in the Albany area has been the fastest growing county in Upstate NY and one of the fastest growing in the state.

Even in the Syracuse area, a town such as Van Buren grew by 9% between 2010-2020. Lysander grew by 6%, Camillus grew by 4.9% and Clay grew by 4%. so, there are local examples of towns growing recently as well.

The town of Henrietta went from 42,000 in 2011 to 47,000 in 2022, which is an increase of about 5,000.

Not many other towns in Upstate N.Y. grew by 5,000 people in the last 12 years.

That's not even higher in percentage than Farmington though. There are other towns in Upstate NY that grew just as much if not more in terms of percentage.
