I am interested in buying a place in Syracuse. This house is located on Wilkinson Street and the zip is 13204. Could someone please tell me if this is a good area /street or is it a slum area?

Not good, not bad. As my grandmother would say metà metà.

Appearance-wise...the westside is one of more depressing parts of the city IMO. In the 1990s, this neighborhood was used for the NYS driving test (the test to get a drivers license). Not sure if this is still the case.

I grew up on that street(#427), like bellafinzi mentioned it's not good but not bad either; guess kinda in the middle. I do remember those driving tests, as a 6 year old I thought some people had some reallllly bad parking skills lol! I've driven down it a few times over the years and it looks much nicer than in the 90's. Lots of the homes have been remodeled/fixed up since then. I remember there was a small park where I'd go as a kid(down the block to the east) which was pretty cool. I moved to Clay in '98(about 15miles N-NW) it's mostly suburban but is growing fast.

Good luck with your house finding! http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/7820/thumbsupgv4.gif

The house I'm talking about On the real estate website I'm looking at has the home for sale for $26,500 . Zillow.com has the house valued at $81,500 it's a 6 bedroom 3 bath.. there doesnt appear to be much rehab needed, would you pull the trigger on this deal?

if it is only $26,500 then I would be very very nervous. If it doesn't need any rehab then there must be some other reason for the low price. Can you go visit the property?

Yes I plan to take the trip this saturday and see it. I am thinking this is either in a bad street or the house has liens on it or it is worse than they are presenting it to be. I will go with an open mind since this is a REO property
