As for price range, I'm not really sure. I'm assuming under 100k, and judging by the real estate research I've done, there seems to be quite a bit in the "under 100k" range.
While not under 100k, maybe something like this may work: Lysander Real Estate - 8241 Speach Dr, Lysander, NY, 13027

You can find sensational real estate anywhere... but just explore and LOOK, for goodness' sake.
Not from you but all the time here I see that in other states real estate costs such and such and I always think nobody would pay that but its like cannon law to some here.

I personally see very few deals in BY and never any when I'm buying.

It is a matter of perspective and choice, as well as looking at comparisons on average. It isn't like anyone on here made up the averages or are saying that a person has to buy a certain home.

As for deals, like proulxfamily said, you just have to look and I'd say count up cost in terms of other factors like location or school district.

That would be the real voodoo with those houses in Syracuse. They are cheap and seem to getting cheaper so you'd lose a certain ammount but you get to live there in the mean time. But if you got kids you gotta add in private school.

I don't know about syracuse but in oneida most of the nice older homes come with a HUGE carriage house out back. I'd love to get my paws on one of those places but things are much more expensive here.

You'd be surprised by how many go the public route and actually didn't the article that syr83 posted state the opposite? This goes outside of city limits as well in terms of prices. Many of the villages offer walkability, at least solid schools, affordable prices, but higher taxes generally due to duplication in services.

I don't know if things much more expensive out there, but this is what I've found out there: RealtyUSA - Property - Property-List

That is for available homes in the Oneida City SD.

Thank you but we are done looking. What I want out of a home is not available in NY at a price I can afford.

We are just riding things out til we can get out and afford to buy a nice place in a different state.

For me its all about having a year around shop and that's never gonna be possible in any state with long winters.

Which doesn't mean someone else can't find what they are looking for.

Oh, I know, but like you mentioned, the information may help someone else.

OP, perhaps these homes could work too: Dewitt Real Estate - 11 Pickwick Rd, Dewitt, NY, 13214

Fabius Real Estate - 980 Apulia Rd., Fabius, NY, 13063

Those are both cheap housing options, but they also both need to be completely gutted. Once you add in the cost to rehab most of these places, the prices are no longer a great deal.

The one on Apulia doesn't need to be gutted. Oh my goodness - that place would incite envy for $5000.

Maybe not gutted, but the kitchen alone needs over $5k worth of work and I would have to rip out all of the flooring.
