Looks like the racino in Cicero will pass. This can be good and bad for Syracuse but I guess time will only tell. However, this and a couple more attractions like Destiny should make Syracuse a lot more entertaining and impressive from an outsides point-of-view.

I am not clear what you mean by "looks like the racino in Cicero will pass". It sounds more like a resolution proposed by gambling opponents that want the Onondaga County Legislature to rescind support for "racino" in Cicero. The Onondaga County Legislature supported the racino on December 6th by an 11-8 vote. There is no vote tonight by the Town Board, its just a discussion with a vote on an amended resolution next month. Thanks
Ive always wondered why that land was slated to be a planned community using as much of the infrastructure in place as possible. I've seen this at a former Air Base in Alexandria LA, where the former Base housing became private housing. It could have been a planned community with some retail or adjoined to the nearby business park, with potential to expand both in the future.
We have a racino here. I do not gamble but have been to shows and such. It kinda blows. Not like really hard and I wanna love it to take money from the Turning Screw but I'm just not feeling it.
While the Indians fall far short of a real casino they are still by far the best thing going Upstate as far as gambling goes. I really wanna hate the place but its actually pretty nice.
Any kind of casino is a net loss for an area. One in Cicero would attract nobody from any other area due to the TS being afew minutes farther on the Thruway. Might keep degenerate gamblers losing there money in Syracuse would be about it.
Casinos are famous for bringing crime and the TS does bring lots of drugs and prostitution but a small racino brings effectivly no increase in crime. Frankly Vernon was a dump long before the racino.

Except for being adjacent to the airport, I am not clear where the property for the proposed Racino is located in Cicero. Is it where the old Hancock Air Base housing is located off of Taft Road? Or, next to the Hancock Business Park which has blossomed nearby.

Yes, off of Taft Road at the Former Hancock Air Base housing, which isn't too far from the Business Park.

Exactly, Onondaga county legislators supported it December 6th by an 11-8 vote, and the whole article was pretty much about making small changes in order to better protect Onondaga county citizens. Therefore, it looks like it will pass.

The article sounded more like opponents want Onondaga County Legislature to rescind its support for "racino" in Cicero, you may be right.

I've thought that residential would be a difficult sell due to the noise pollution from the active portion of the airport. Wonder if there are any environmental contamination concerns that have further slowed development?
