Can anyone give me some information about the availability of teaching jobs in the area? and the salary range? preferably public, but maybe private. I am a New York Certified Special Education (B-21) teacher, with 8 years experience, mostly at the HS, teaching math. Also is there a lot of SEIT or ABA work, incase I wanted a part time gig?
Look at some possibilities here: Central New York Jobs or look at the listings at the Hillside Family of Agencies website.,They have a campus in nearby Auburn. Theres a location in Syracuse as well.
I used to teach at Syracuse City School District when I lived in NY. I have a lot of teacher friends from there that I chat with regularly. They are laying off hundreds of teachers and other employees for next school year. It is not a good time to be looking for a teaching job there. However, there are many outlying school districts around Syracuse that may be looking for Special Ed Teachers. Try Cicero, Baldwinsville, Fayetteville Manlius, East Syracuse Minoa, Liverpool. Go to their web pages and search for jobs. Good luck! The pay is really good for the cost of living in the area.
You may want to look into the Jowonio School or perhaps a program like the SKATE program through BOCES. It can be tough, but you could also keep an eye out for postings soon, as the school year winds down and some teachers retire. Jowonio Homepage - Jowonio Homepage - Jowonio School
