Took the 2023 Crosstrek in for the first oil change yesterday. I'm old enough that my days of crawling under a car are over, so I like to have the dealer do that during the warranty period. The price didn't seem horribly out of line (something around $50 + disposal fees). But I also had the tires rotated... something I don't normally do. That brought the bill ('investment' in Subaru lingo) to damn near $110.

I know the service department is the profit center, but something close to fifty bucks for rotating tires seems excessive to me. Is that normal for Subaru?

Normal charges here at independents for a tire rotation, any normal vehicle, is $40-$60.

It is the right price for that.

I think I paid 50 bucks for front and rear wipers with my oil change and it was over 100

I heard the service writer qoute somebody I think $60 for wiper blades, and I almost spit my (free) coffee out. I just now price checked at Autozone, and I'm clearly out of touch!

The best wiper blades are still less than $30/pair, and easily replaced by the driver. Still, if you are paying for another service anyway, another $30 to have them installed is not a big deal.

Last time I took my F150 in (still on warranty) for "The Works" as they call it, I paid $49.99 for Synthetic Blend Oil Change, Tire Rotation and Pressure Check, Brake Inspection, Vehicle Checkup, Fluid Top-Off, Battery Test, Filter Check, Belts and Hoses Check. Since then, however, Ford has raised it to $69.99. Still not a bad deal since the 5.0 takes 7.7 quarts of oil, so about $40, then a filter is another $10, and it's well worth the additional $19.99 to not have to deal with the messy job and drive to an auto parts store to get rid of the old oil.

Last time I had wipers placed at a dealer was for back in 2014 or so. I did it along with other service, and as I recall, they didn't charge to install them. I hate (HATE) changing wiper blades, but I can do it myself in 5 minutes...3 of which are trying to remember the tricks. No way will I pay to have them installed.

Wiper blades are counter-intuitive in a sense, you depress the retainer and think you can pull off the blade off the arm, but first you have to pull them back down the arm an inch, and swing them out past the J hook, then off.
Always baffles me every couple of years when I replace mine. You'd thing after decades of doing it there would be some memory retention at work...... but..... nada, zilch! The first blade is a 3 minute learning experience as Seguinite relates, then the second blade is a 30 sec. start to finish job.
