So I know about Marion. Quiet and not bad if you don't have children. Occasional drive-bys but still peaceful, if that makes sense.
I want to hear about cities over 10k population, if not part of a larger metro area. Diversity doesn't matter. Not expensive. Not overly developed with new homes and tiny roads (like Fort Mill).
Crime obviously is important, meaning the city shouldn't be on a top 10 most dangerous list. Higher than average crime is ok since that also means the crime is recorded.

Does such a paradise exist in SC?
I hope you realize SC is growing very rapidly. I would suggest googling a list of city populations and median incomes, then visiting to see which ones you like. No one can tell you what is “best” for you. My paradise might be very different for you.
It also depends on your hobbies, interests. Do you want to be close the beach? Mountains? Live entertainment nearby? Cultural events? College sports? So many variables. You also didn’t mention sfh? Apartment? Land? Price range?
As stated above, can you elaborate on some things. What is affordable to you? Are you looking to purchase a home or rent? What is your budget either way? Is traffic a concern?

Best of luck.
I don't have a preference with beach piedmont or mountains. I don't care about live entertainment or cultural events. Or sports, though parks will be nice where people can play sports or take a walk on a Greenway. The town should have single family houses and apartments, though I may or may not start in an apartment. If I buy my budget would be around 200k. I don't care about land.

To me affordable would probably be to a town where retirees haven't flocked to with their life savings. Traffic isn't a concern.
I'm open to the whole state. I lived near Charlotte and liked it, also lived way west of Asheville and liked it. Grew up on the coast, so I appreciate proximity to the ocean, but I'm not so set on anything in particular.
Oh, I lean conservative. I don't think that matters though because SC as a whole is more conservative, even when liberals cheat. I'm comfortable around anyone because idiots are a dime a dozen everywhere.
I would look into Chapin, or farther up Prosperity. The only real problem is the traffic, it's getting to be a pain in the you know what. Lexington and Irmo are good options too. Basically somewhere at least semi close to Lake Murray. Good luck.

Lots of towns outside the cities fit this criteria. I am partial to Greer.
