You'll get a better response if you put this in the Charleston area forum.

I put this on the Summerville forum because from what I have read Charlestonians used to go to the Summerville area in the summer to escape the mosquitoes and humidity. I would like to know if Summerville is truly more comfortable that Charleston re humidity and mosquitoes. Thanks

I have family in both cities so I visit there often and I have never noticed any difference in climate between the two areas at all. As I am sure you know, they are really not that far apart.

Thanks. I knew they were close but read that the pine forests made difference. How about Greenville. Is it less humid?

There may be a difference that could be recorded with a Hydrometer but as I said there has never been any difference as far as I have been able to tell. At one point, there may have been some positive effect on humidity from all the pine trees in Summerville but many of those pine tree forests have been cut down to make way for new devlopment. It is amazing to me to see how much Summerville has grown in just the last 8-10 years.

I would say it is less humid in Greenville. You could probably go to NOAA or Weather.com and check recent humidity levels between the two areas to compare.

I guess it all depends on what you consider to be an acceptable, comfortable level of humidity. I assume the humidity in the Charleston area comes from the Ocean and all of the wetlands that extend inland.

To me, Greenville is definitely less humid in the summer than both Charleston and Columbia areas. I think you will find many people familiar with all these places will say the same thing. Greenville sits at the base of the mountains.

Thanks. I live in southern New England and it is very humid in the summer. We have family who either live in the South now (TN) or lived there (Baton Rouge area for 40 yrs) and they complain of the humidity here. I always found their discomfort surprising but then they are used to central air and we go through most of the summer with no air conditioning until we can't take it any longer and put in a few window units. It looks like Greenville might be the place for me to start out even though I find it hard to think of moving further inland.
