follow up question: is the mission district safe these days? Particularly the area around Portrero and 21st?

At this point in the search I seem to be honing in on living in SF proper as I have realized the cost of Single family home rentals with parking and small yards are about the same cost anywhere within a 1 hour commute of SF (areas like san bruno/ssf/daly city/berkeley/san rafael) etc.

Really liking what I have seen in Bernal Heights, Noe Valley, and Mission district, but again I want to be in an area that isn't rife with things like home burglaries etc.

Do you really think that Bernal Heights, Noe Valley and the Mission have more home burglaries, etc. than other neighborhoods in San Francisco??

Those neighborhoods get more sunny days then then some other areas of SF.

Off the top of my head, I would say there are safer areas of SF in regard to property crime. But, you could do worse. Noe & Bernal are 2 neighborhoods that come to mind as being better. I am assuming that you have come across a dwelling that may fit your needs & budget in the area of 21st & Potrero
If I was in your shoes and found a dwelling that I really liked, I would not rule out living in that area

I think a good chance the perpetrator/s are from a different area and come to Noe Valley looking or targets of opportunity to rob.

Do I think there are likely worse areas than those? Yes I do. But my question wasn't "do Bernal Heights, Noe Valley and the Mission have more home burglaries than other neighborhoods in San Francisco"?

My question was "is the mission district safe these days? Particularly the area around Portrero and 21st?"

To which I followed with the comment that I do not want to be in an area rife with home burglaries.

Thanks for the snarky comment though!

It wasn't really meant to be snarky... it's just that those neighborhoods are known for being nice and "nicer" than many neighborhoods. I myself wouldn't live near SF General, but with all the gentrification it may well have changed - in fact, probably has. Haven't been there in years.

Thanks for the clarification. I live in LA and haven't spent much time in SF in the last decade so I am unfamiliar with the overall vibes of the different neighborhoods.

I do like the Noe Valley area of SF......but, it is a bit pricey. It's generally a bit quieter area compared to the Mission Dist. Last time a relative came from out of town to spend the day here visiting with me, Noe Valley was one of the neighborhoods I showed her. She liked it. We also walked around the much smaller Glen Park neighborhood.

That is one of the worst areas in the city.

"Crime was concentrated on 16th Street, Mission Street, and Potrero Avenue/22nd Street. "
