Also note that many keep large amounts of $$$$ cash in the home.

I think this is major reason why they are being targeted along the victims may be of smaller stature

From the article...

Approximately 50 home invasion robberies have targeted elderly Asian families in the Oakland Hills, and they may be connected to a small group of criminals, according to law enforcement sources.

This year?

The criminals got away with $10,000 in cash and jewelry.

They hit the jackpot. Expect more bangers to be scoping out elderly Asians to rob.

It's because criminals doing this are targeting the old weak seniors who cannot fight back.

You can't fight bad guys who have guns. The most recent victim is some UFC fighter who is Asian. He and his friend were robbed at a liquor store.

I concur with you on this 100%. The reality of it all is that Both parties must be armed. Element of surprise doesn't hurt.

Some immigrant groups are targets because it takes awhile before people fully trust the banking system. As such, it's not uncommon to be able to recover a larger amount of gold/cash than one would get from robbing an American of the same economic class. Some immigrant groups are also more reluctant to call the police.

Wife's store has been robbed twice. In the first case they couldn't get the (empty) register open. In the second case they made off with about $4 in quarters and some "lucky" colored coins of no actual value. We hung a sign noting no cash on premises and a camera and we've been fine since. However, the old timers that run the water store and the ethnic grocery store in the same plaza keep getting hit.....and not learning a lesson.

When her store made it through the last recession, we noticed all the other shops started adding little mirrors to the doors in copying my wife....some sort of feng shui thing. Someone also stole her lucky frog with a coin in the mouth...so she got a better one. Point being, especially if it's not cash, groups tend to steal from themselves.

Let's see how well you know your stereotypes. Who does this? (don't actually answer)

- Money sewn into a coat
- Money in the freezer
- Money inside a wall
- Money inside a bed
- Money inside a toilet

- Money in a book
- False wall sliding furniture
- Safe behind a picture

- Case filled with gold bangles.

Eventually immigrant groups move towards safety deposit boxes in banks.

Criminals are being continuously emboldened to push a bit further each time because public sentiment would rather make excuses for them and instead get angry at those trying to enforce the law.

Push geographically as well. Criminals from Oakland are now hitting the upper middle-class white areas when 30 years ago they would not dare because the cops profiled them.

You think criminals are ‘analysts’? … They are opportunists who act extemporaneously. They don’t analyze politics, or who’s the city prosecutor, how tough the sentencing guidelines are, or anything else. If they see a window of opportunity where police presence seems light - to - absent, they’re in. They don’t expect to get caught, so *caught* issues don’t enter into their insect-like decision-making.
