White America? As a champion of opportunity for the Black man, it's beyond ironic that your own political ideology serves more to reinforce their victimhood and failure. With friends like you, they don't need a lot of enemies.
That may be where some of the underlying semi-conscious guilt comes from.
Perhaps, but I'll leave it to them to best determine who are their "friends" & who be their enemies. They've had plenty of time to get it right.
Yet, you were quick to tell me who my friends are and who aren't my enemies when we first encountered each other on the RI forum. I'm sure you don't recall that, but it's true.

I do recall it & have no reason not to stand by it. Do I?
I don't know what you stand by. How would you know who my friends are and aren't?
Advocating against ones own immediate self-interest (and associating with others who do also) is not new or novel. Frankly, many of us who call ourselves "progressive", do it all the time. If that doesn't address your question, then I don't understand the ??.

I've been doing it all my life in a variety of forms, thank you, but rarely find the desire or need to advertise it. But since you brought it up, what personal interests of your own are you advocating against?
But the question was how would you know who are my friends or enemies?

And still they voted Miss Lori Lightfoot as their BFF. Until the bodies started piling up. The truth is that you need THEM far more than they need you.

We are who we are. Best to be authentic. People respect that. Advertisement is not necessary, unless we choose to. I wouldn't "know". How could I?
Providence is probably at the top of my list of places I'm thinking of moving too. I'm going to try and visit this summer. I've been doing a lot of reading and research, but I'm sure people who live there can tell me better. What is something I should know about Providence that may effect my decision? I can tell you I'm looking for a mid-sized city close to a larger city, with 4 seasons, liberal leaning and LGBTQ friendly, with a good art scene and food scene. I've been told Providence checks all these boxes. What else should I look into?
Me-Lived in Austin, San Antonio and Houston. And yes PVD and RI (the state is the size of Austin Metro square miles) packs a punch in the categories you mentioned. Having Boston 55 minutes away by both commuter train and Amtrak.
Clear you mind about the "artificial" political boundaries of cities in the USA. Austin has aggressive annexing and is huge because of that practice. Providence Metro is 1.6 million and we are part of Boston's

This will satisfy all urban needs (get a fix for more urbanity every few months with a 3 hour train to PennStation for the weekend)
Pluses of Providence
- Liberal City, in Liberal State in Liberal Region.
- Cost of Living was in comparison of living in Houston, which we thought would be cheaper than Chicago (where we moved from...not overall).
-Beautiful Region of the Country. As my partner said (and he is heavy into math and statistics and it was startling for him to notice), Rhode Island, including Providence is like driving through a beautiful post card.
-Four Seasons are incredible. Winter is NOT too long are hard like Chicago (in-fact has been too mild these last few years). It becomes green and lush and the water bay/ocean are to die for.
Negatives - While we have a decently educated population, there tends to be some provincialism and it is very sad when discussing comparisons to the rest of the country and world. That being said, it is really cool living in a place where everyone has a relative or friends who can help you out...be it a construction project or selling you a car. Reminds me of Austin and PDX in the 1980's (nagging thing is most people on here think solutions to the problems we have here have never been dealt with in other cities...but there are success stories, like downtown Austin and PDX.....they turned things around. The negative people talk about the state dying, yet our housing stock is in very short supply even with all the construction and conversions happening in various regions of the state, including downtown.
My partner is Korean and has not had anything racist overtly or covertly done/said to him since our moving here in 2014. That wasn't true when we lived in Texas (Houston) 2011-14, when we lived in the Rice Village area/Medical Center.
Crime is nothing like Texas Cities or the state. Hate is not supported and cherished here. It is safe and even if the rest of the country keeps trending toward the fascist side of things this area will be the last area to go.
