FWIW, in the old Soviet system, typically both husband and wife worked, usually at separate enterprises, and each enterprise would provide a vacation trip, not just paid time off, and typically they were separate.

I'm not! The post said "partner". Not spouse!

Which reminds me that my sister and brother-in-law are threatening to visit me this Spring. They actually lived separately for 17 years because of the second home where he'd visit on weekends. I do not like being a cushion between a married couple. I get this all the time with married friends. I do not like being buffer material.

He hates our side of the family I hear from my nephew. So, I'm like he married into it for the last 55 years. He married one. Find the thing you hate and marry it I guess. He sounds angry too now that he has retired. He told me his honey-do list will take 15 years to complete -- LOL.

My husband ran out on me after ten years and is on his third marriage now. You do not have to tell me twice because I did not sign up for another round of that. I guess because we traveled together (a lot).

My wife and I like the same things and get along well together so in our 49 years of marriage have always gone on vacation together. Our last one was on an 87 ft boat in Alaska for a week with some family and in that situation if you don't get along well it could be rather difficult.

I enjoy traveling with my girlfriend, but I've been single more than I've been partnered, and grew up as an only child.

She really doesn't like to travel. Her idea of a good time is laying on the beach in an oceanfront hotel. I'm fine with that for a couple of days, but I'm pretty active - enjoy hiking, kayaking, boating, organized tours in some cases, etc. I'm way more of an adventurous eater.

I'd be perfectly fine doing a vacation by myself.

I've done a few girls trips and we have a great time. But any significant trip I travel with my spouse.

Met my H 40 years ago this month and we will be married 34 years this summer. There is no one I would rather travel with than him. He is a great trip planner and a wonderful traveling companion. We still have so much fun together and I hope we have many more adventures ahead of us!

Well, I suppose that is one way to pay for those trips.

You can have plenty in common and still not agree on everything. Neither of us are 'vacationers', but she'd be all in for a two week European adventure... and I couldn't care even a little bit less.
