I am considering retirement community. They are adding a fee because I am under 70. Thoughts?

Do they explain what you get for that fee? Are you locking in a good rental rate or something?

Is this a CCRC? My Del Webb 55+ Active Adult doesn't have any such fee and neither do any of the other 55+ communities I'm familiar with. What is their rationale? There must be some explanation - I'd certainly want one. It almost sounds discriminatory.

weigh your choices and decide. You have the information to make an informed decision. I'd probably drive over there and talk to current residents about the community as a whole. Adding a fee or just price adjusted for those under 70? Depends on your perspective. Price adjustments based on age have been around forever.

They report they are allowed based on the "insurance commission".

Something else... There are three top retirement communities in my area; This is the only one that charges these fees.

No explanation except that I am younger than the 70-age thing.

Will check on rental options.

Good idea on chatting with the communities' residents.

I agree, it feels discriminatory. I believe in the real-estate world they are not allowed to ask a clients age.
