No dental plan. Both of us had to have crowns and some fillings earlier this year. Just handed them the credit card. Hopefully nothing more than cleanings for the rest of the year.

The ex- paid for veneers on my upper front teeth by a dentist in Tijuana. They looked nice, but I had to return several times to have them cemented back on. Finally, had them replaced by a Huntington Beach dentist with crowns, at a lot higher expense. Mexican dental work is inexpensive, but I have personally found that "you get what you pay for".

To answer the OP's query, there is a dental plan available through my employer subsidized retiree medical insurance, but it was not financially worthwhile. The monthly premium is very low, but so is the lifetime cap on benefits. Ridiculously low. So, anything that needs being done will be on my own dime.

I had the AARP one with Delta Dental for many years but it wasn't cost effective. Now I just pay cash for mt dental services, and for that, he gives me a discount.

Nope.

If not, what do you do?

Eat plenty of candy, ice cream, cake and pie.

Geeze, I nearly spit out a mouthful of hot coffee. I needed that laugh. Reading some odd stuff here tonight (not you). Is it a full moon?

I dropped dental when I retired cause it’s so expensive. I pay out of pocket if I need something done.

I never had a dental plan. When I need a crown, I just put it onto a cc. Care credit is very good. I pay it off in time and there's no interest. Lots of sacrificing to be able to pay it off, like no eating out (but that also reduces the desserts and other foods that wreck your teeth so maybe it makes sense.)

My advantage plan does offer two cleanings per year but you have to go to one of these "chain" style dentist places. I'm thinking of doing it just for the cleaning and then going to a regular dentist if I need to have any work done. Don't know if the "chain" dental place will like that very much.

Being self employed, I know how much dental insurance costs us and it never pays for everything so there are more out of pocket costs, and I know how much we spend on dental care, and it’s cheaper to pay for our own dental by about 1/2.

Might even save more, because we just changed dentists, and the new one gives cash discounts.
