Are there tarantulas in Reno/Sparks? Any other nasty spiders? Want to move there but terrified of these guys.

Some tarantulas in the desert..however very shy, small and seasonal. Reno is not like one may think of the Arizona desert with large tarantulas running around. Other spiders are common, but no more dangerous or common than any other areas

Up on Mt. Peavine we get some big ones, but nothing scary. I did find a Black Widow about the size of a half dollar living in my irrigation box last summer.

Black Widows are my fear, we are relocating to Northern Nevada up by Rye Patch. We put in a large shop/garage then left for a few months my husband went back in August to find a few webs and about 6 black widows. We went to the site over Christmas break, he pulled a few nests off the side of the wall and removed as many webs as we could find. I've lived in Alaska for the past 35 years, no spiders to fear no snakes I mean the critters to fear you can see from a distance.

We had a bull snake on our property one summer, was told that if you have a bull snake most likely the rattlesnakes will stay away. They told me that the bull snake is a predator to the rattler. Not sure if that is true but it sounded good.

I've been doing a great deal of research on the internet about black widow spiders, the say they are pretty hardy and not many insectisides affect them, well that wasn't good news. We will get along just fine it they stay out side of my house.

Apparently in our area we have the food chain going on with, black widows eating the creapy crawlers, scorpions eating the black widows, boroughing owls eating the scorpions. So what eats the boroughing owls?

I've had success killing black widows with hairspray and WD40. Not sure which one worked, but nothing else was available, so I kept blasting them with both until they were dead. Didn't take long at all.
