We'll my wife and I arrived on sunday to 71 degress and getting off at the Reno airport was a easy and quick! I was already liking the mountains in the background and the laid back feel keep in mind I'm still at the airport and had to put on my flip flops right away. We arrive at the Eldorado and Loved the hotel and the Casino was okay, and loved the fact that 3 casinos were all connected. Know for my complaints and there is a lot of them. Sorry Reno/Sparks.

I have never seen so much white trash in my life, I couldn't believe the whole east side of the street from the Eldorado was all pawn shops. So I said no big deal it looks a little like a very mini LA. So we walked down to the river walk which is nice but should be called a creek walk. Then we walked downtown, The whole town seemed very dumpy, it was 4pm on a sunday and there was nobody around any where. Where are all the people? No traffic and no bars, no clubs, no nice resturants. At this point I'm sick and tired of people asking me for change it reminded me of that south park episode of "Change". So we took the 1 bus down to the mall and still no nice bars/lounges or anything, just pawn shop after pawn shop. The mall was ok and then we took the 6 line back to see more of Reno. I do however like you buses and the card system and the book avail for info. the bus book was very helpful. I did not like all the homless people that got on the bus along with all the weirdos. So we walked around to all of the other casinos and no nightclubs and the town seem to be filled with white trash every where. I thought reno was was the dumpiest town I have ever been to. Granted Im coming from Milwaukee(2million) with a bar/lounge on every corner, but there was no night life in Reno. I walked around the nice homes on the bluff south of the casinos and took some nice pictures but from here reno doesn't seem so bad maybe cause you couldn't see the street bums. Reno really needs to clean up it's act, even in the casinos homless people were playing slots constantly. A lot of abandoned buildings/white trash/casino food was no good. I did win 350 on a wheel of Fortune slot so I was happy for that. The people seem to stick to themselves and I felt the need to wash my hands every time I went into a casino. Fitzgeralds was a dump along with the Nugget. I don't know how any one can live in Reno, there is nothing to do but gamble. I don't think I will be coming back agin. Milwaukee feels like NYC compared to Reno, I did like the bowlng stadium thought very nice!!!!. Just judging by the people walking by the whole town seem very boring and dirty, along with the dirty buildings. The Auto musuem was nice, but thats about it. Sorry reno/sparks but this is one western town I wont be coming back to. Whats with all the young white kids that look angry and pissed off and they all seem to hang out on every corner. Reno is a dump!!!

There has been a drought for the last 2 years. Usually the Truckee River really flows, especially during the spring.

I hate it when people beat around the bush. I wish you would just tell us how you REALLY feel. I agree that some areas around the casinos downtown with T-shirt shops and pawn shops can be a little seedy. Sorry you didn't have a good time.

At least I'm happy to live in a town that doesn't have "a bar/lounge on every corner" (your description of Milwaukee).

That was a funny take on Reno.

I've been to Milwaukee and see your point about the bars and restaurants in the downtown area. Much like Las Vegas, Reno never had a "real" industry in its downtown area and therefore there's not much reason to be there during the week and certainly not on the weekends. Normal/successfull people live in outskirts/suburbs and drive to their jobs that could be located anywhere in the city. Likewise, nice bars and restaurants are located where the people are. Westerners tend to be more into outdoor recreation as opposed to doing things in the "city". If you would have taken the time to get up to Lake Tahoe you would have experienced one of the playgrounds for the locals.

Anyway, I'm not a huge Reno fan but I don't think you gave it much of a chance.

True I didn't have a rental car to see the complete outskirts. I wanted to see Lake Tahoe but I'm more of a city guy so I have seen trees before and they don't do anything for me. However I will give Reno/LK Tahoe it's props in the fact that they probably have better ski/snowboard hills than WI since our higest point is only 2,000ft. I actually was really pumped to go to Reno but that might have been why I felt so let down, I guess I was expecting it to be a mini Vegas. Reno is it's one city and shouldn't try to be Vegas unless thats what the people want. Reno has a ton of potential due to the fact that there isn't a lot of development downtown and plenty of room for expansion. Like in Milwaukee where condo's where the cataylist to redeveloping downtown, I see the same for Reno. Milwaukee downtown pop. used to be only 5,600 back in 1989 and now it's 20,000+. Why so many pawn shops though? certain areas in MKE they won't let any loan stores or pawn shops come in. Reno seemed very spread out which is not my cup of tea, I like my houses touching my neighbor's. It's just what I'm used to, I wish Reno would have more bars/clubs outside the casinos and food choices close by so I wouldn't have to take the 1 bus all the way down to McCaren.Blvd. Anyways next time I'll come I'll get a rental car and explore LK Tahoe and drive around in the suburbs. I was looking for more of a party atmosphere all around and it was too laid back for me. I wish Reno the best and Why did all those casinos close? I was looking at the postcards in the casino and all the Pics were from the 80's or 90's and half of the casinos aren't around anymore?

You judged Reno by what little you did? You didn't even do anything.. I moved here 6 months ago.... I moved here for the mtn biking, snow shoeing, snowboarding, skiing, the various marathons they have around the area, the lakes so close by where I canoe and kayak. Hiking, rock climbing... I guess if you a softer indoorsy type and were looking for slots and food to eat, you might've been disappointed. I understand, I used to be more like that.

Why do you like your house touching your neighbors? I can't imagine liking that. May as well live in an apartment. I'm not a bar/lounge person, there's more to life than drinking and sitting around. I want to breathe fresh air and feel my blood flowing.

Reno isn't Vegas, or I wouldn't be here. I spent my 20s in Vegas, grew up, and moved after I matured and got it out of my system.

Do people from Cali think that by living in Cali it's a status statement, I over heard some people saying that "Yeah I'm from Cali people who don't live in Cali wish they did" "They want the status of living in CA and telling people I'm from Cali"

Well people in the Tristate area don't look up to people in Cali we actually look down on them as who would ever want to live in all that smog/eathquakes/crime/traffic. we tend to favor NY maybe cause were closer and our cities aren't so spread out. But do people really think there something special cause there in cali? Is this a problem in Reno? and Where was Reno 911!!!!

Better ski hills would be the understatment of the year based on what I've seen at Alpine Valley.

Nevada tends to have a preponderance of pawn shops due to the havoc the gaming industry wreaks on irresponsible people.

Yes, Californians tend to be obnoxios but with some reason. On the whole, the state is unmatched in terms of its economic prowess and geographic diversity. Unfortunatley, over-population of its larger cities and marxist attitudes of local governments has significantly lowered its quality of life and future economic viability.

Well put.
