I wish I had a dime for every time I've heard the word 'offended.' This is my biggest pet peeve ever. It's so pretentious. People say things I don't like or agree with all the time - to encounter this is a fact of life. Whenever someone says they're 'offended,' I hear, 'The world needs to conform so that I'm not uncomfortable, because I don't know how to deal with people who don't agree with me.' It's a subtle form of arrogance and a big sign of weakness, a lack of mental self-control. There's an intellectual dishonesty present, and I find it ironic that most people who throw this phrase around tend to be highly educated (and quite proud of it) and freely give their opinion without solicitation, and/or they tend to be women.
