Yeah, because, coincidentally, the books of the Bible, especially the OT laws, were written by--get this--MEN.
The Episcopal Church has been ordaining women since 1977.
Why does who wrote them matter? It's either truth or not. To suggest the sex of the author determines truth or not is logical fallacy. But it is consistent with the message of our culture today.
It’s actually in the Bible that Christian churches and congregations are led by men.
There are some woman televangelists, eg Joyce Meyer, but most pastoral men would rebuke her for this.
Yes, that's correct. And she is not only wrong for preaching, as a woman, but she is demonstrably a heretic. She's taught some things that both men and women in the 1st Century church would have soundly condemned her as a heretic.
All religious texts are hard to read when they refer to women and their bodies. Rather than disrespect, I believe women cause fear. They create, develop, and deliver a fully formed human being out of their own body for godsake! Forget about a rib, they feed this human with their own body. And then they rise up and go work in the field. This is strength and resilience beyond imagination.
Several traditions do acknowledge this power. The creative power of Lord Shiva is Shakti, a female form. Without Shakti Shiva is a dead body. After all there is no Jesus without Mary. Mary deserves more veneration than what western Christianity gives her.
That’s the roots of patriarchy in a nutshell, eh? Institutionalized oppression, based on fear and superstition (maybe even a little bit of derision?) toward women; the strength of the so-called “weaker vessels.”
ITA regarding Mary. The very existence of Christianity hinges on her agreeing to gestate Jesus.

This type of attitude is why people are pulling away from churches.

Oh stop being so predictably dismissive of other views. It's not "culture today". It's culture in a ME tribal society of several thousand years ago we are talking about. A thinking person can separate the influences of that culture from the core belief that there is One God in these ancient writings and understand which is which.

It really is culture today. People think that if we JUST change the church to be more like the world, that the world will suddenly come rushing in.
Meanwhile, Jesus said "“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." John 15:18-19
Now, I'm not suggesting we should intentionally be obnoxious, but let's get serious. Truth is truth, and the world realizes when people are pandering to them.
