we can't undo the damage satan and adam brought upon mankind.
We can't resurrect oneself or another, so we need someone who can resurrect us - jesus can and will - rev. 1:18.
Jesus being sinless to death thus balanced the scales of justice for us opening up the way to everlasting life.
- matthew 20:28
This is rather too "pat' and nebulous for me. I was hoping to get a more practical and personal understanding which I can relate to as a non-Christian. It does not tell me why there should be any reason to persue a life of spirituality rather than one without. :-)
Can you be more specific and try to explain how that motivation manifests in your daily life please?
I discovered that Jesus was real, and I could know him as I had no witness of God from people, so I was deceived for forty years of my life. Today, God abides on my spiritual space as He is there night and day for years
Is it because we are seeking everlasting life? Like an insurance policy?
Is it because it makes us feel good about ourselves?
Is it because we want to be seen to be a 'good' person?
What made you initially start to follow this way of life?
Why would we bother to spend so much time and effort doing the things we spiritually believe in?
Or..is it because your parents did the same thing and you kind-of fell into it?
For me... my spirituality manifests as an inward look to understand the outward world. I find God's message easier to hear apart from distractions. I don't always start with prayer, but that would be the better way, I'm sure. Religion not required.
Spirituality is best understood as... our imagination untethered by knowledge, but at the same time, it's impossible to escape what we know, understand or believe. If you're a sceptic, secular or a non believer, then by all means don't deny that, just be open to what is presented during the time. I often quote Einstein on this one... "Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution."
There you will find things beyond what is known or experienced. Spirituality leads to intellectual evolution and is a very tacit experience for me, it's a very private place.

I am thankful that Jesus paid the penalty for my sin, so I serve Him in my daily life and through my local church.

No, I'm not in the same religion as my parents. I'm a Christian because God called me to it.
My motivation for spirituality is my own - I hope to be considered a "good person." It has to do with morals, ethics, compassion, empathy. There are days that it is very hard to be any or one of those things. LOL
I saw something on Pinterest last night that really hit me. I don't believe it's a quote since there is no acknowledgement but:
"Religion is following the messenger, Spirituality is following the message."
Simple: God loves those who love Jesus.
Everlasting life is just a by-product for loving Jesus as God loves Jesus.
Sad to say that 'nominal Christians' are part of the MANY who prove false to God and Jesus - Matthew 7:21-23.
Ah...so what percent (would you guess) of American christians are "nominal christians"?
I'm guessing you'll be afraid to answer.
