Without lust there would be no desire to "go forth and be fruitful

Why shouldnt we be proud of what we have and work for for.

Shouldn't a sin be a sin--without varying degrees? (Oh, it's OK to commit that one--it's not nearly as serious!)

Yeah, you have a point there. Even though sin is sin, their effects or consequences can be experienced as a sliding scale of severity. The "meanest" deadly sin is wrath IMO. And wrath is not necessarily limited to physical violence.
