Realtor.com is legit. Go through and pick 3 or 5 with maximum # of photos and/or virtual tours with custom descriptions. Schedule interviews.

To find out how good and knowledgeable they are ask:
1-How many properties did you list in the last 12 months and how many of them sold?
2-What was the average list to sales price and how does it compare to market average?
3-Your average days on market vs. market average.

If they can't answer those questions or at least get one you think is satisfactory then find another 3-5 to interview.

Do some local research, interview some local Realtors and chose one who can answer your questions and qualify to become your new best friend during the listing/buying period.

It is not always the Realtor who sells the most listings or is affiliated with a large company who will be the best fit for you.

If anything, make sure the brokerage firm you go with is in IDX. (Internet Data Exchange) this allows your listing to be auto-populated to all the other websites included individual agents' websites. Also, Open houses help you get traffic through the home. It's a numbers' game, the more people that see your home, the better the chances you will get an offer. Realtors can also refer agents for areas that we do not cover ourselves. Where is the home that you want to sell?

Open houses don't work in my area - at all.
