On Zillow's REA Directory, real estate agents can self-identify their specialties. Specialties such as: Short-sales, foreclosures, commercial RE, buyer's agent and/or listing agent. One other specialty is "Relocation." Only about half of the REAs I browsed listed "Relocation" as one of their specialties. Does it take extra certification/licensing for a realtor to specialize in relocation?
If a buyer's agent doesn't self-identify as specializing in relocation, then does that mean s/he isn't interested in representing an out of town buyer? Is relocation a hassle that some buyer's agents would rather avoid in a client?
Almost any buyers' agent will work with folks who are newly moving to the area.
However, many will not work with buyers who are working through a relocation company. The relocation company may demand as much as 40% of the agent's commission, plus cost the agent more work, as well as many of them being very unethical.
Relo companies working within ERC may look for people with CRP credentials, Certified Relocation Professional, but that is not strictly real estate focused.
We can find and pay for designations for almost any aspect of real estate practice, but NAR does recognize any specific relocation specialist designation.

Are you saying that relocation companies are unethical?

Nope. But I can sure imagine that being the case.

Nope. Read the post. I said "many are very unethical." It is a qualified statement. ETA: I would qualify it further. Companies can hardly be ethical. I have dealt with some very unethical relo company representatives.
I have dealt with some real grifters in relo.

Care to share a story or two (feel free to message me)? I've mostly dealt with Prudential Relocation which is now Brookfield Global Relocation and on a more limited basis a few other companies. I have never had an experience that would make me say such a thing. All the reps from relocation I've dealt with have had nothing but the client's best interests at heart. So, I'm curious what makes you write this statement.
