I've been to Rio Churascarria in Cary. It's a little above average, IMO.

How's the one in Brier Creek compare to Rio?

Are there other choices for this style restaurant within a reasonable drive from the Triangle?

Chamas in Brightleaf Square, in Durham.

Never been to Rio, but Chamas is better than Brasa (the one in Brier Creek).

I haven't been to Chamas, but Brasa was "pretty good" but not great. For that sort of money I want something better than I can get at home. And Brasa was not it. But the staff is very accomdating and kind.

I will second or third or where ever we are... Chamas in Brightleaf was great! I was just at lunch at the one in Briar Creek (Brasa) and it did not seem like you received enough for the money you shelled out.

I would give Chamas a try. And eat a very light breakfast/lunch

thanks everyone. I think my wife and I have a rare date planned for Chamas tomorrow. We've been in the area for 3 years and have not made it to Brightleaf yet, so it will be an adventure for us!

Mike

OK I admit it, I don't know what I found more curious: that there's such a thing as a "brazilian steakhouse" or that there's more than one in the area. What the heck is this? What they put salsa in the steak sauce and serve w/rice instead of mashed taters?

It's not the specific preparation it's the presentation.

Brasa is about 40 per head plus drinks. It's an all you can eat side dish buffet and they bring different meats to your table and let you pick what you want chicken, pork, steak (different cuts), alligator ...

I believe the style of the restaurant is called a Churascarria, but it's called a Brazilian steak house for people who aren't as worldy to understand. They generally kick ass and are worth every penny, I would only go for a special occasion.
