I shopped around and was able to save a significant amount over Amica. Bummer cause I like Amica, but I'm not sitting around pooping out 100 dollar bills either.

I must have got lucky. 3 months ago I switched from USAA to Amica. Same exact limits and cut my yearly cost by 45%! Hopefully they don't surprise me with a big increase next year.

They will. They all start cheap then hit you with the increases.
Silly me assuming that adding a whole new HO3 policy to my State Farm portfolio that already included my existing HO6 and term life insurance would make my auto-insurance rate go down with all that bundling....and getting all excited when the letter came in the mail for my rate update.... only to find out my auto rate went UP due to a "change of location rating factor".
Apparently NW Raleigh is considered "higher risk" than SE Chapel Hill just over the Durham County line where I was before.
I think switching your home and auto insurance every couple years is the way to get the best deal. But you know hardly anybody does that - Americans are too busy in their daily life. We all talk about it, but who actually takes the time like m378 and actually call around/fill out a form online, get another quote and then switch? Not many, unfortunately.
Insurers sometimes offer enough discounts for steady customers that hunting for a savings as a new customer elsewhere is not so tempting.
I have some rentals with Auto-Insurers plus my car. There are discounts for the multiple policies, and a discount for having never submitted a claim.
The most expensive rental is about 2000 Sq ft and the policy plus landlord insurance $900 a year in Mecklenburg County. The others are small starter homes, about $600 a year.
The skyrocketing home values and building materials price increases also drive up replacement value costs for the insurance companies if you lose your home or file a claim, so they have to increase insurance premiums. All those "free" hail damage roof replacements aren't really free because we all end up paying for them with higher premiums. Wait until you see your property tax bill increases for this year.

and then your a chump like me who paid for a roof out of pocket. I blame my wife.

Meanwhile State Farm sent me yet another lovely letter today telling me I had to repair/replace my roof within one year or they would drop my policy.
Where are these thunderstorms we keep getting promised?
