I hope Morgan Geekie makes the Canes squad one day. Great name.
Read one pundit who says he is a stealth candidate.

He is lighting it up in the playoffs with 7 goals and 8 assists in 14 games.

Necas has 2 goals in 13 games... far down the list of playoff goals among Checkers. Let's be patient but there's an increasing chance that the Canes burned a first-round pick (12th overall) on a player who won't make an impact in the NHL.

The Carolina Hurricanes will have a new ECHL affiliate. The Florida Everblades have changed affiliations. They will be affiliated with the Nashville Predators.

A prospective ECHL affiliation could be closer. The Greenville Swamp Rabbits in Greenville, South Carolina, were without a National Hockey League affiliation for the 2018-2019 season after an eight-year affiliation with the New York Rangers from 2010 through 2018.

I wonder if there were talks between Tom Dundon and Peter Karmanos regarding purchase of the Everblades at time of purchase of the Hurricanes?

Interesting that the minority owner of the Canes owns an ECHL franchise that is affiliating with the Preds.

I do not know if Dundon and Karmanos had discussions of the Florida Everblades, and, if so, what extent.

An affiliation of the Hurricanes (NHL), the Charlotte Checkers (AHL), and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (ECHL) could be doable.

That is what will probably end up happening. Makes sense travel and cost wise, gives the team some footing in the Upstate region, which has a good number of retirees from places where Hockey is popular. The Swamp Rabbits franchise also used to be the ECHL-era Charlotte Checkers, so there's a "going back to their roots" angle there too.

Checkers win game 2. Series is tied at 1 and will now shift to Chicago for games 3,4,and 5. Games 6 and 7 if needed will be back in Charlotte.

Checkers are a win away from winning the Calder! Game 5 is tomorrow.

Unclear that there's a statistically significant correlation between AHL playoff wins and NHL playoff wins at the organizational level. But for individual players, this has to be good for the Checkers who have a reasonable chance of competing for a slot with the Canes.

Training camp in September will be interesting.
