Hopefully, Wegmans will keep their excellent ratings in Consumer Reports when they hire new crews in this area at possibly lower salaries from being a right to work (for less) state.
Wegmans already has 11 stores in Virginia, which is also a right-to-work state and it doesn't seem to have hurt their Consumer Reports ratings, so I doubt the new stores in NC will have any effect, except keeping them ranked as one of the best employers in the US year after year!

Trader Joe's seems to do a great job of hiring and retaining the sort of staff in NC consistent with their operating model, I'm not too worried about that.
What I am slighly annoyed with is how they keep plopping destination style retail operations in the same stupid locations. I live north of 540 and west of Creedmoor Road, getting down to Costco and Trader Joe's is a drag, almost like a day trip for us. Whole Foods is doing quite well near 540, why can't any of these other companies follow suit?
The junk they build will probably put other businesses out of business creating useless vacancies.
The area they are using is already overcrowded with retail and causes traffic backups from the Beltline to Wendy's.
The ignorant attempt to end Beltline backups at Wake Forest Road created a third exit lane lane that forces anyone stupid enough to take it to either go back on the Beltline from which they exited or try to instantly jockey over to the right causing wrecks.
If the redesign work is done as stupidly, this will be a great location for a towing and ambulance station.
Always so negative, never a positive with you. Calling everyone and everything stupid. Maybe you need to look inward and reevaluate your own mojo.

Constantly repeating this fallacy doesn't make it true. There are three turn lanes from the Beltline funneling into three straight lanes on Wake Forest. They even repainted the worn guidance lines through the intersection a year or so ago to make it crystal clear where you should go in each lane.

Yeah, you can even see it on Google Maps. Unless someone is not paying attention of "their turning lane" and is distracted, there should be no issues to anyone with half a brain making that turn.

Somewhere (it may have been on this forum) I remember reading that a Wegman's distribution center either exists fairly close to NC (VA perhaps) or is planned, but I could be mistaken and thinking of something else?
Having never been to a Wegman's but hearing lots of accolades about it, I'm curious to see what all the fuss is about.
I've commented in the grocery thread on the Charlotte board that I don't see them going to Charlotte or several other places that people there have speculated on unless they build another distribution center. Richmond is already pushing it. Raleigh will push it even more.

I'm not sure what their limit is from their one and only distribution center in Pottsville, PA.
Right now from Pottsville to Raleigh, you are looking at ~430 miles and having to go around B-more and DC, so depending on the time of day and how many weigh stations they have to stop at, it could take 7 hours on the low end to 8 or more hours on the high end.
Maybe they are happy with those times and distances. It's kind of similar to In-N-Out Burger, which only uses fresh beef and had only one processing plant in SoCal, so all of their new stores had to be within a day's drive from the plant. Then they built a new beef processing plant in Texas and started expanding there.
One would think if Wegmans wants to continue their southern expansion into Charlotte, South Carolina, Georgia/Atlanta, a new second southern distribution center would be needed eventually.
Since they are privately/employee owned, and methodically and purposely expand, they almost seem like IKEA in a way. Wegmans is at 95 stores right now, I think, I don't see them getting to 200 stores in the next 50 years, that would be 2 new stores opening every year over that time.

Right now they could use more stores in the Philadelphia market. They have quite a few in Virginia in the 95 corridor. The stores in the Triangle give them a foothold in North Carolina. They could build a 2nd distribution center, in southern Virginia, & build around in North & South Carolina & out of the 95 corridor in Virginia. That would allow them to expand in New England, as well as adding stores in the Philadelphia & Baltimore markets.
I read that someone in the family wants to go to Florida. If that's the case, shift the 2nd distribution center to NC but still service most of Virginia from the 2nd distribution center & include the northern half of Georgia. Then build a 3rd distribution center for the rest of the way down.
That's the way I see it. I think that North Carolina is a much better place for them than most of the more southern locations.
