I mean, Tim Cook did get his MBA from Duke, and I believe he does come back to Durham and the campus every so often. I would say it's not out of the realm of possibilities.
Apple might wait to decide depending on where Bezos chooses for his HQ2.
I actually find this more realistic then Amazon even though we’re in the top 20 with them. Of course we don’t have a requirements list like Amazon provided but just looking at Apples current campus, you can certainly envision something like that in RTP. Plus with Tim’s ties to Duke.....the recognition we’ll get from Amazons top 20....hmmmm...
I'm not so sure. Apple has an ongoing commitment to have all of its buildings, operations centers, and data centers run on 100% renewable energy. Could the Triangle support that?

You just do what they did out in Catawba County, build the nation’s largest privately owned solar farm, across the street from the data center!

They just pay to have the equivalent amount of solar or wind put in somewhere else in the area. They can also put solar cells on the roof of their buildings or in the parking lot.
I’m sure that’s what they’ve done at the new “spaceship” campus building as I’d be surprised if the roof panels there can actually support the whole building.
True, but that's far easier to do in Catawba County than it is in a metro like Raleigh or Durham. And they are putting a new data center in Iowa that relies on wind power (they'll need to do much less work themselves for that as the overall grid setup includes wind) and had already purchased more land than needed for that initial project when it was announced, sooooooo... Lots of speculation out there!
The Triangle does seem to be a strong possibility with all the talent in the area, though. Will be interesting to see what happens.
The solar farm wouldn’t have to be next door to get it on the grid. They could put the solar down near Shearon Harris or in NW Durham. I think I read they have around 350 Billion in cash to work with.
