I have seen so much on the news about the increase in crime in Portland that I am concerned about my daughter attending the University of Portland next year. Is the University is a safe area?

Pretty safe / established area... You can check police stats.

Close enough to areas that require being careful at night, I would do a 'Stranger-danger' / personal protection course. (and never venture out alone to those parts if possible).

They are not in the neighborhood... but within a 10 min drive. / 20 min walk.

Hopefully Portland is on the upswing. It really was a beautiful and fun city.

I hope DD does well at UP, I have had some excellent coworkers from that school. And one of my kids wanted to go there, and should have!

Always good to be aware of surroundings. Agree with Stealth Rabbit. Check the stats. I heard that the school is pretty good. I know of a few people who have gone. One was my daughters teacher and she was one of the best educators she had.

Yes, it’s a nice residential area in sort of an off-the-beaten path corner of the city that isn’t really on the way to anyplace else.

I’d have no problem sending my kids there. I’d imagine it is basically as safe as any other similar university located in a large metro area.
