I am not necessarily convinced that expulsion is the right move in this case, particularly because I am sure there are others who are guilty of exactly the same thing he did, they just hid it better. He has already announced he does not intend to seek reelection, and I do not think New York Republicans would vote to nominate him in a primary election, again. (I wouldn't vote for him.) All this to say that he is a problem that will soon go away, whether it be on his own or by his colleagues.

Of course, the ethical side of me says that because his corruption is provable, he should be expelled, regardless of him not being the only corrupt politician. And that ethics is of the most importance, as those without ethics have nothing. On the other hand, where are the Republicans in the Senate? Why has Senator Menendez yet to be expelled?

There have been various pushes to expel Santos, but it really didn't gain any momentum until the ethics report came out two weeks ago (which was six months in the making). If anything were to go forward with Menendez, it would likely go to the Ethics Committee in the Senate first.

I do think Menendez should go also and have stated as such. It is interesting to note that at this point, most Democrats in the Senate have called on Menendez to resign and Fetterman has called on Menendez to be expelled (I don't believe anyone else from either party has called on him to be expelled) Republicans in the Senate, have been really quiet on Menendez.

Purely speculation here, but perhaps a reason why Republicans in the Senate haven't pushed on Menendez is they would rather go into November with a purely open Seat (no way is Menendez winning a Primary) as opposed to an appointed replacement who would have some Incumbency advantage (chances of the GOP winning a Senate seat in NJ is extremely slim anyway, but they might feel some opportunity in an open seat)

Here's a pretty good summation of where this case stands, going into the vote today:

One GOP Congressman explains why some of his Republican constituents want to see Santos expelled from the House:

GOP congressman says it would be politically advantageous for him to vote to expel George Santos because some of his constituents 'don't like the fact that he's gay' - Business Insider

House vote may not happen. Leaders are beginning to "sour" on taking a vote.

I'm hearing the house speaker will not vote to expel him, and encouraged members to vote the way their districts want.

Link is showing vote may be close and no longer a sure thing, as leadership appears to be against expelling, but still appears to be a vote coming. If the Guest resolution gets pushed aside and not voted on, Garcia & Goldman brought their own resolution to expel under a Privileged Resolution and that will get voted on

Watching the tube right now as the House gets ready to vote. I’m guessing he won’t be expelled since the Republicans can’t afford to lose his votes. But I could be wrong.
