Do you know how hot it gets in the Panhandle in the summer? You might be ready to say, "Oh, but it gets really hot in NYC in the summer, too!" but until you've been here in July and August and you have to swim through the air, you'll realize the difference.

A lot of people come down from the North and turn right back around after their first summer. Come down and check out our summers....and our bugs....and our lizards......and our bugs....and our bugs....

Yep, I have lived here all of my life (42 years) and I still hate the summer heat and humidity. It's miserable for four months of the year.

You're right - it gets hot as hades here. But, NYC hot is a different and far more unpleasant animal.

I think it will be fine. May be some getting used to. My family dealt with 100 degrees and all sort of critters in their lifetime (they are from Asia).

While it may be true that the region has a higher coastal topography, your overall statement quoted above is absolutely false.

If the OP has no desire to live near water, he shouldn't be moving to Florida to begin with. The entire State is swampland. No matter where you drive/live in Florida, you are never more than 90 miiles away from the Gulf/Coast. In addition to being surrounded on three sides of water, there's streams, rivers, lakes, gulches, ditches, run-off ponds, and water, water, everywhere. In addition to which it rains a lot leaving lots of mud.

Default Florida and not living close to water.

You cannot live in Florida without living close to water. I understand if you don' want to live right on the beach, but literally every place in Florida is within 90 minutes of a coast. Add in lakes, streams, rivers, canals, and constant rain - you are always living with water and the hot, humid, sticky results that come from it. Summers are brutal. Swelteringly brutal with lots of bugs. Do not underestimate how hot and sweaty a Florida summer will be, especially in the panhandle where you rarely ever get a breeze.
