I mean, here you are racing into open land, and how do you say, okay, this is mine???? I could never visualize it.
I suggest you watch the movie Far and Away (1992). It's a Tom Cruise movie that was very good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqrxX...eature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oxi8wvUBNhU

A young man (Cruise) leaves Ireland with his landlord's daughter (Kidman) after some trouble with her father, and they dream of owning land at the big giveaway in Oklahoma in 1893. When they get to the new land, they find jobs and begin saving money. The man becomes a local barehands boxer, and rides in glory until he is beaten, then his employers steal all the couple's money and they must fight off starvation in the winter, and try to keep their dream of owning land alive. Meanwhile, the woman's parents find out where she has gone and have come to America to find her and take her back.

GPs answer was absolutely correct, btw.

I remember that movie and loved it,though don't remember the name. I am hoping to come back to OK in July staying 10 days this time. Ed and I went last Feb and really liked it.

What I like best about Ok the sunshine and the very friendly people. I just kept saying to Ed the people are so friendly, felt very comfortable where ever we went. We flew into Tulsa and during the drive I noticed the trees were very small, short and had gnarled branches. (what are they?) Loved the openess the sunshine, bright blue skies. We did not go everywhere we wanted but it looks like I will be Talihina bound. Will be staying at T-Spur Ranch, want to do some horse back riding, driving around SE OK to see where I really want to settle. Somewhere around Talihina. July will be house shopping, job shopping etc. So if I can get all my ducks in a row and don't freak out when I see a snake I will be moving to OK by myself Ed has finally come off the fence and has decided to stay. Anyone know of a long distance horse trucker? Going to try to bring all 4 horses with me when the time to move finally comes.
Kris
What airport should I fly into Tulsa,OKC,Fort Smith?

There was a man in our office yesterday looking for posters. He just wrote a book on Lawmen and Outlaws of OK. It came out last Tuesday. We talked a lot about OK history, and he also explained how the lots were determined during the land rush.

He also told me to watch Far and Away. I had tried it years ago, but didn't care for the beginning too much, but now I have it ordered from netflix so I can try it again.

My Grandfather was a U.S. Marshal in Oklahoma Territory (my Father was born in 1904 and was 57 when I was born in '61).

My Grandfather was shot in the back of the head by a member of the Bell Starr gang.

Far and Away is a good movie Colleen.

Krisk. Pardon me if this is an ignorant question, but is Ed your husband? I hope that the two of you aren't splitting up over a location decision. If I'm off base here, just tell me to shut up friend.

I can sure understand that, however, it doesn't sound like he was a permanent fixture in your life anyway. I know if my partner wanted to move and she had as good a reason as you do to move, then I would do so in a heart beat.......provided, of course, she meant that much to me. If she were just someone to hang with, it wouldn't make much difference whether she moved or not.

Synopsis and Goodpasture,
I thinK GP knows why. I will be 50 in august and I just keep thinking where do I want to be in 10 yrs,5 yrs. Maine is hard place to live. I have an unbelievable hard time making through the winter and my spirit is broken. Working 40 plus hours a week then coming home with something broken my 100 plus yr old house, shoveling the roofs, basement flooding, furnace breaking 3 times during the coldest snap. Oh yeh, I've had it! ( for Synopsis we are not married, lived together for 10 yrs). Financially it is tough and it will only get tougher. I look ahead and see this and I truly feel this house is a burden. My heart is broken with his decision. I am very much in love with him and wouldv'e moved heaven and earth to make sure he was happy. I think from now on I will just stick with horses. Hopefully I will make new friends, kindred spirits.
My children are not happy with the possibility of me moving but they are grown have their own lives and I don't see them very much. I am afraid of being the old lady in a cold house waiting for her children to call or to come by and pay a visit.
Krisk
GP and Colleen,it would be great if we could meet when I come to OK.
