I am 71, my spouse is 67. We just moved into Choctaw and will be looking for a permanent home with a small property included. (dog needs a yard). I am a disabled Vietnam vet with some mobility challenges. What are the tax implications of buying property?
I sincerely hope this topic is worth a new thread. Thanks for the help.

I would suggest talking to your local county office, since everyplace is different.

if you are rated 100% disabled by the VA - you are exempt from paying property taxes in Oklahoma.

This group can give you a lot of good guidance.
https://www.veteransunited.com/futur...ions-by-state/

DO you want to stay in the same region? Do you get medical care from VA or from Tricare?

(once you determine your climate and state)
I suggest that you list the medical facilities you would desire / need care,
get as near as possible, potentially within walking / wheelchair distance.

Many VA campuses have housing available for yourself and spouse,
Many VA cities are very nice and have accommodating facilities and transportation.

Since I did the search for my dad and FIL, as we were located in western USA; we used Sturgis, SD, Hot Springs SD, Roseburg, OR; Retsil / Port Orchard WA, and Sheridan WY.

The answer will depend on the state and local tax district.
