Hello. I am living in Gore right now and going to move to Boise City this summer. I just would like to know what it is like living in the panhandle, i.e. shopping, medical centers/hospitals, schools, places to rent, etc.

Never lived there but know a few folks who know about the place thru business they've done there, I have driven through the place many times. Alot of oil business goes on there. It is in a pretty remote area of the state (far western part of the panhandle) folks either go to Denver, the Springs or Pueblo or Amarillo TX. for anything interesting or for major medical needs. In honesty, not alot there, pretty desolate surroundings, dry and windy. It is big enough to take care of your basic needs though.

You will likely need to drive to Amarillo (about 115 miles due south) for some of your entertainment. We do have a great medical complex here if you have major medical needs. Otherwise, Boise City should be fine. It is a very small town and I would expect the crime rate is low and the schools are good.

You will definitely be in for a shock, weather wise. The summers are much drier than eastern Oklahoma and very little humidity, which is good. However, we have been in a major drought for the past year or so and hopefully, this year will not be a repeat. Also, you will have to get accustomed to the ever present wind. Spring is the worst, as far as high winds are concerned. And, it may be a bit dusty there in Boise City. You'll also see plenty of tumbleweeds.

Good luck to you. Hope this helps somewhat.
