Heavy rains cause flooding and evacuations

As I listen to the rain POURING down, watching the flooding on TV, I'm reminded that I would tell someone that they could count on the weather in August being hot and dry. Oh yes, you might have the remnants of a tropical storm wander by.

Interstate 40 was closed for SIX HOURS because water was over the highway. Unbelievable.

In other Oklahoma news:

Inmates find 8 seconds of eternity

I have to point out that the inmates are not strapped to the backs of the animals. That would be incredibly dangerous and cruel to the inmates, as opposed to ???????????

I was watching the radar loop on one of the weather sites and saw the signature spin of the remnants of erin over Oklahoma and could hardly believe it. It went all the way out to West Texas (missing DFW entirely) and then came back over Oklahoma and parked itself. I don't ever recall a hurricane/tropical depression ever taking that course in my entire life growing up in oklahoma.

After reading The Oklahoman newspaper online this morning, I've been tempted to write to our former neighbors and say "Can't you people make up your minds? You want drought or floods? You can't have both." Oh, wait, it's Oklahoma we're talking about here.

After 60 years as an Okie, we moved to western Washington two years ago. I'm ready to move back. I do so miss Gary England!

Yes, it's just weird. Apparently there have been no deaths or injuries, even in that nursing home that was destroyed, so that is a good thing.

OMG, there was a nursing home destroyed? We saw the weather channel this morning when they were showing the OKC area. It's just odd how far-reaching those hurricanes actually are~especially odd considering that Erin was only a tropical storm later on. Just hope Dean continues to stay WAY south of us.

The roof was ripped off the nursing home, but the 17 residents are safe and have been moved to local homes.

I saw that GK. I couldn't believe it as well. I've never seen what is essentially a mild hurricane over Oklahoma. Wild.

I came home from church this afternoon and it was 73 F.! Wow. Normally, our storms make us hot and humid. I could not believe the low temps. Seminole was in a downpour when I left church around noon.

Very sad news update. The three family members who were swept away in the van in Caddo County have been found and all three parished. Prayers go out to the Chief of the Kiowa Tribe, Billy Evans Horse, who sadly watched his family being swept away last night. Prayers for him and his family.

OMG Redbird, my prayers are with the families, too.

It is just unbelievable. They've shown more footage on the weather channel and they even showed it on the national news this evening. They've shown rescues and the flooding. How sad!! They talked to a policeman or some law officer and he had been in that line of work for over 20 years and had never seen anything like that. He seemed like a friendly, chatty guy. They didn't show his pic, but did a phone interview on the weather channel.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening in recorded history? I'm amazed that the torrential rains even hit OK, BUT I'm more amazed that they're all the way up here. There's a line from OK going eastward and it goes as far north as Minn. and Wisc. That same rainstorm that's causing this is just 100 miles east of me. I'm not aware of rains from a cane EVER being this far north~at least not in recorded history.

Now be prepared~someone looking at OK for relocation will ask you how bad the hurricanes are there.
