There is a southern accent. It's in Southeast Ohio. I've even heard some people from Southwest Ohio with a little twang. But, the whole state certainly doesn't have it.. and not many people live in Southeast Ohio as it's very rural. Probably only a few hundred thousand people out of Ohio's 11 million.

At this point, the Civil War has little relevance. Culturally, Southeast Ohio is far more southern in culture. Southern accents, sweet tea and southern cooking, etc. Like I said, it's probably more Appalachian with some Southern influences. It certainly is NOTHING like Northeast Ohio... not one similarity other than the state that is shared.

Southern Ohio is not part of the South - we don't want it, thank you.

It is one of many transitional areas between two regions. There is really no debate as to which region it belongs.

Of course it's not part of the South. I said it has zero Midwest characteristics and is definitely more Southern culturally. Get off your high horse buddy.

I would appreciate it if you would refrain from such personal attacks. I wasn't even responding to you...mine was a response to the OP. If I'm responding to you, I will quote your post. I could care less what you were saying - I didn't even READ your posts.

Thanks for the information. It is nice to hear outsiders view on our region.

Wasn't a personal attack, more playful teasing

I am not from that area but I would guess that the Ohio River makes an excellent boundary between regions. It is also easier to have regional boundaries at the state line. Been like that for a long time.

If you see Southern influence in the Midwest (or vice-versa), wouldn't it be best to say that area simply has "Southern influence" in the Midwest?

Part of Ohio also has Appalachian influence and Northeastern influence. Actually a pretty interesting boundary state.
